Best Western Hotel Portos is part of Satoria Group. For years we have run hotels with people, places and the planet in mind. We joined the international Green Tourism programme to keep cutting our water, energy and waste in our Warsaw hotel.
Our Green Story
Step by step — no empty promises
Hotels use a lot of water and energy. We don't pretend to be "zero emissions" — instead we show the specifics: where we cut consumption, how we sort waste, what we ask of suppliers and how we train the team.
Most of this work happens behind the scenes — meter readings, cleaning-product audits, waste reports. Part of it depends on you: choosing the tram over a taxi, water from a carafe over a PET bottle, keeping your towel another day. Hotel and guest on the same team — that's when the result shows.

What we actually do
Concrete action across six areas
Water, energy, solar, cleaning products, waste, safety and accessibility — this is what everyday sustainability looks like at Hotel Portos.
Water
- Monthly consumption monitoring — own tables and charts, with internal technical checks and a third-party partner
- Aerators on all taps, dual-flush toilets, showers with adjustable stream type
- Drinking water dispensers for guests — in place of PET bottles
- Sanitary disposal bags in bathrooms and housekeeping procedures protecting the plumbing
- Grease separator cleaned quarterly; oils collected several times a week by an external company
- Regular water quality testing for legionella
Energy & solar
- Photovoltaic panels on the hotel roof with live generation monitoring
- Monthly meter readings — separately for restaurant and bar, separately for guest rooms
- Key card in the reader cuts power in the room when the guest leaves
- Motion sensors on all corridors; housekeeping trained on room lighting
- Schedules and restricted temperature range for air conditioning
- Equipment rated class B or better, with eco-standby modes
- Regular inspections of heating and ventilation; building is insulated
Cleaning & textiles
- Diversey ECO (R1, R2, R3) certified with the EU Ecolabel
- Natural alternatives where possible — e.g. citric acid for kettle descaling in rooms
- Bedding and towels carry the OEKO-TEX certificate
- External local laundry committed to sustainable development
- Tork dispensers — limit product and paper use to what is actually needed
- No herbicides or pesticides; HACCP principles in food service
- Pest control via specialised partner INSEKT — only safe products
Waste
- Monthly reports from the waste collector, broken down by fraction
- Sorting in guest rooms, crew areas and shared guest spaces
- Water corner with dispensers — no plastic bottles
- Porcelain mugs in guest rooms replacing disposables; hand dryers in public toilets instead of paper towels
- Cleaning products and amenities ordered in bulk; smaller dispensers are refilled
- Electronic waste and fluorescent lamps collected by a specialised company with archived disposal reports
- Water-dispenser gas bottles replaced on demand by an external partner
Health & safety
- HACCP in food service; regular inspections by fire brigade, sanitary-epidemiological station and categorisation
- Internal health-and-safety procedures and regular training: first aid, evacuation, emergencies
- Entire hotel monitored by CCTV; AED and first-aid kits in easily reachable spots
- Hotel-wide non-smoking policy
- Emergency instructions provided to guests in the in-room information materials
- Team trained against child exploitation in tourism and human trafficking
Accessibility
- Rooms adapted to the needs of guests with disabilities
- Lifts serving every floor of the hotel
- Lift control panels labelled in Braille
