Warsaw was rebuilt from rubble after WWII — its history is visible in every brick of the Old Town. Understanding the context turns sightseeing into something more than a list of photo stops.

Warsaw's heritage is the result of decades of work by conservators and volunteers. Each of us can help preserve it by acting thoughtfully during a visit.
—In museums and galleries — check the photography rules (often no flash, sometimes none at all). Don't touch the exhibits. Speak quietly.
—In churches and places of worship — in Poland, most churches are active places of worship, not just monuments. Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered), silence your phone, avoid sightseeing during mass.
—In historical parks and gardens (Łazienki, Wilanów, Saxon Garden) — stay on marked paths, don't feed the animals, don't leave litter. The peacocks at Łazienki are protected — please don't disturb them.
—Monuments and memorial sites — Warsaw Uprising memorials, the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes, sites of WWII tragedies. Keep silence, avoid selfies in provocative poses.
—Supporting conservation — buying a ticket to a museum or a historic park helps fund conservation work. Locally made handicraft souvenirs (instead of mass-produced ones) support Polish artisans. A small but real contribution to preserving heritage.
