Best Western Hotel Portos is part of Satoria Group. For years we have run hotels with people, places and the planet in mind. We joined the international Green Tourism programme to keep cutting our water, energy and waste in our Warsaw hotel.
Our Green Story
Step by step — no empty promises
Hotels use a lot of water and energy. We don't pretend to be "zero emissions" — instead we show the specifics: where we cut consumption, how we sort waste, what we ask of suppliers and how we train the team.
Most of this work happens behind the scenes — meter readings, cleaning-product audits, waste reports. Part of it depends on you: choosing the tram over a taxi, water from a carafe over a PET bottle, keeping your towel another day. Hotel and guest on the same team — that's when the result shows.
Our three pillars
People · Places · Planet
Green Tourism assesses hotels across 16 categories grouped into three areas — people, places and the planet. Here is how we work in each of them.
People

- 99% of private healthcare costs covered by the employer
- MultiSport package with 60% covered by the employer
- Anti-mobbing and equal-treatment policy
- We support SOS Children's Villages, Synapsis, po DRUGIE Foundation
- Every year we support WOŚP (Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity) — donation jar in the lobby and free stays for the auction
Places
- Mangalia tram and bus stop right next to the hotel — trams 14, 16, 19 and buses 116, 148, 172, E-2
- City centre by tram in 20 minutes, Chopin Airport by bus in 35 minutes
- Veturilo "Sobieskiego – Mangalia" public-bike station at the hotel

Planet
- Photovoltaic panels on the hotel roof with live generation monitoring
- LED lighting and motion sensors in shared areas
- Tap aerators, dual-flush toilets, showers with adjustable stream
- No single-use plastic: carafes, refillable bathroom dispensers
- We measure waste — quarterly we cut collection frequency
- Laundry partner powered by photovoltaics, with a tunnel washer using 25% less water
- Cleaning products by Diversey and Tork with Ecolabel certifications
What we actually do
Concrete action across six areas
Water, energy, solar, cleaning products, waste, safety and accessibility — this is what everyday sustainability looks like at Hotel Portos.
Water
- Monthly consumption monitoring — own tables and charts, with internal technical checks and a third-party partner
- Aerators on all taps, dual-flush toilets, showers with adjustable stream type
- Drinking water dispensers for guests — in place of PET bottles
- Sanitary disposal bags in bathrooms and housekeeping procedures protecting the plumbing
- Grease separator cleaned quarterly; oils collected several times a week by an external company
- Regular water quality testing for legionella
Energy & solar
- Photovoltaic panels on the hotel roof with live generation monitoring
- Monthly meter readings — separately for restaurant and bar, separately for guest rooms
- Key card in the reader cuts power in the room when the guest leaves
- Motion sensors on all corridors; housekeeping trained on room lighting
- Schedules and restricted temperature range for air conditioning
- Equipment rated class B or better, with eco-standby modes
- Regular inspections of heating and ventilation; building is insulated
Cleaning & textiles
- Diversey Room Care R1/R2/R3/R5 Pur-Eco — cleaning products with the EU Ecolabel (DK/20/6), based on citric acid and biodegradable natural surfactants
- Tork soaps, foams and lotions with the EU Ecolabel (SE/030/002) — cosmetic products meeting EU ecological criteria
- KAREN ZZ paper towels with FSC C160530 — paper from responsibly managed forests, protecting biodiversity
- Bedding and towels with OEKO-TEX Standard 100 — tested for substances harmful to people and the environment
- Chemical and paper suppliers implementing EUDR (EU Regulation 2023/1115) — products with no link to deforestation
- External local laundry committed to sustainable development; pest control via specialised partner INSEKT — safe products, no herbicides or pesticides
- HACCP principles in food service; natural alternatives where possible — e.g. citric acid for kettle descaling
Waste
- Monthly reports from the waste collector, broken down by fraction
- Sorting in guest rooms, crew areas and shared guest spaces
- Water corner with dispensers — no plastic bottles
- Porcelain mugs in guest rooms replacing disposables; hand dryers in public toilets instead of paper towels
- Cleaning products and amenities ordered in bulk; smaller dispensers are refilled
- Electronic waste and fluorescent lamps collected by a specialised company with archived disposal reports
- Water-dispenser gas bottles replaced on demand by an external partner
Reducing single-use products
Some items aren't in your room by default — and that's intentional. Rather than keeping a stock for everyone, we keep them available on request at reception. Fewer unnecessarily opened packs, less waste, more sense.
- Water corner with drinking water dispensers — no PET bottles in the rooms
- Bottled water (PET) — available on request at reception only
- Toothbrushes, razors, shower caps and laundry bags — available on request at reception, not stocked in rooms by default
- Hotel cosmetics in refillable 300 ml dispensers — no single-use sachets or mini-bottles
- Policy aligned with the international standards of sustainable hospitality and the Best Western group programme
Health & safety
- HACCP in food service; regular inspections by fire brigade, sanitary-epidemiological station and categorisation
- Internal health-and-safety procedures and regular training: first aid, evacuation, emergencies
- Entire hotel monitored by CCTV; AED and first-aid kits in easily reachable spots
- Hotel-wide non-smoking policy
- Emergency instructions provided to guests in the in-room information materials
- Team trained against child exploitation in tourism and human trafficking
Accessibility
- Rooms adapted to the needs of guests with disabilities
- Lifts serving every floor of the hotel
- Lift control panels labelled in Braille

The Green Tourism logo we display here and in our marketing communication confirms that our commitments are verified by an external auditor and not greenwashing — i.e. over-ambitious or misleading claims about environmental performance.

Your part
Responsible Visitor Charter
Six small choices that make a difference for the planet during your stay. No compromise — just pick what works for you.
- Tram instead of taxi. The Mangalia stop is right outside the hotel — city centre by tram in 20-30 min, Chopin Airport by bus in 35.
- Carafe instead of PET bottle. Filtered water in the lobby water corner — help yourself freely; bring a reusable bottle for the day.
- Towel for another day. Hung on the rail = we keep using it. On the floor = we wash it. Less laundry means less water and energy.
- Key card on the way out. Taking the card out of the reader cuts power in your room — lights, AC, TV. It does it for you, if you remember.
- AC with the windows closed. Open window plus running AC = huge energy waste. Pick one.
- Less on the plate, more if you want. The breakfast buffet stays open until breakfast ends — no need to load up at once. Less waste, less food in the bin.
Hotel and guest — together you can see the result. Each of these choices adds to what we already do as part of our Green Tourism programme. Thank you for choosing a hotel that takes this seriously.
